Purpose: Why take the TSAP?

The TSAP is designed to provide a current state assessment of your teaching knowledge and skills, as well as your probability of demonstrating specific behaviors in the classroom. Having the results of the TSAP can help you identify areas of strength as you consider entering a teaching career or an alternative certification program. The TSAP is also helpful in designing a professional development plan for beginning teachers, including those entering an alternative certification program or internship experience.

What am I being tested on? What are the teaching competencies?

Each of the TSAP instruments measures at least two teaching competencies. These competencies, have been defined by a number of state and national certification bodies. The TSAP instruments, however, address 12 areas specifically defined in the Florida Educator Accomplished Practices. These practices are behaviorally anchored, and were developed based on research, a review of multiple standards, and a collaborative process including several institutions across the country. Specifically, each of the TSAP instruments measures one or more of the following teacher practices:

This Practice: Refers to the teacher behaviors and competencies required to:
Assessment Create, collect and use assessment data to further student learning.
Communication Communicate effectively with students, families and colleagues to support student learning.
Continuous Improvement Recognize the need for continued professional growth and participate in development and execution of a plan to accomplish that task.
Critical Thinking Model and encourage the use of high order thinking processes in students.
Diversity Create a positive learning environment in which all students and perspectives are treated with respect.
Ethics Demonstrate behaviors consistent with a professional code of ethics in all situations.
Human Development and Learning Plan and execute processes that are based upon the established principles of learning and that lead to identified student outcomes.
Knowledge of the Subject Demonstrate competence in, and broad-based understanding of, the subject and illustrate the interdisciplinary links between the subject, other subjects and the student’s world.
Learning Environment Create an environment conducive to learning and enhanced student responsibility.
Planning Establish high student expectations, work with colleagues to meet student needs and plan effective instruction.
Role of the Teacher Support student learning through effective interaction with colleagues, parents, students and the community.
Technology Integrate current technology into planning, learning and classroom management processes.
